Introductory Post

Hello, everyone!

My name is Nichole Blass.  I have been an Instructional Tech Resource Teacher with D99 for almost 3 years.  Currently, I spend most of my days maintaining Google accounts for our thousands of users within D99, while supporting our teachers and staff with tech integration.  When I was a classroom teacher, I taught Math and Social Studies at the jr. high level.  I was the teacher giving the US and IL Constitution test! When I first began teaching, technology in the classroom was available, but very limited.  Teachers had a desktop, but students only had access to computers in a lab or home. Eventually, a laptop cart was available and I couldn't sign up for it fast enough! Students responded with excitement immediately, and lessons became much more engaging for them... and me.
Being part of the Instructional Tech Resource Team enables us to continue to research, use and critique online programs that are being considered for district-wide use. Within this blog, I hope to share with you my experiences, both good and bad, using different tech tools to make ed tech integration as seamless as possible.  One tech tool I find most useful is Google Forms.  Because I create a weekly tech tip, this tool is very useful to gather suggestions in an organized way.  A survey link is generated and pasted into the weekly email, allowing people to provide suggestions for future tech tips. I have used these suggestions for many previous tech tips. Fortunately, I have the option to view the results within Forms or a Google Sheet, if I prefer. After the tip has been sent out to our users, a PDF is generated and included in a Google Drive folder acting as a repository for future reference.
I also plan to use this blog as a way to share some of the insight I have gained as a result of Foundations of Education Technology. You will read about the ethical dilemmas facing teachers and students regarding legalities of online resource use. There is also a journey with words through time in education, showing how the economy influences curriculum and structure of schools. Remember to check back to see what other tidbits I've discovered on my trek through Tech Ed.

  1. Hi Nichole,

You're weekly tech tips are so helpful! It's great that you use Google Forms to create a survey to gather feedback from teachers and administrators. I find Google Forms to be a very useful tool as well! I use Google Forms to create surveys, polls, graded quizzes, assignments (including choose your own adventure), pre-assessments, exit tickets, and as a work log. I really like that you can see the form results in real time and export the results to a Google Sheet.

  2. Google Forms is also my favorite tech tool! I love the simplicity of how Forms gathers data. I look forward to receiving suggestions from you about how to make technology integration more meaningful in my classroom!
